USA National Anthem Piano notes
The national anthem of the United States is “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The lyrics are taken from Francis Scott Key’s poem “Defence of Fort M’Henry,” written on September 14, 1814, after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships of the Royal Navy in Baltimore Harbor during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. The Star-Spangled Banner, a huge American flag with 15 stars and 15 stripes that flew triumphantly over the fort during the American victory, is what inspired Key to write the poem.
